My partner and I were gifted a big case of our favorite sparkling water, Spindrift. My partner was telling me that she drank more water when she had a lot of sparking water to drink. But was having a felling of scarcity/guilt drinking 3 cans a day. I thought, how about we make our own and have an endless supply!
So, after researching the different models I bought a SodaStream E-DUO. I landed on this one because I liked
the electric pump feature (others you have to hold down)
Glass bottles. I'm concerned (paranoid?) about microplastics
Bigger bottles than other models. 24 oz vs 34 oz
Easily sourced aftermarket altercation accessories. More on that
On that last point, I intend to modify this device with a large, cheap co2 canister once the one that came with are empty. I will update this review once I have started testing that setup. You can read about that more here

Onto the review.
I bought the device on 9/17/25, so have been using it for about a month now. It has been a fun addition to our household. We each drink a 1L bottle (34 oz) a day. My partner sometimes drinks two. An equivalent of about 6 cans of sparling water! She wouldn't do that with cans, we're both too frugal, so this has been great.
I'm glad I bought the electric version because sparkling water at the push of a button is a treat. There are three button at the top to choose you bubbliness. I like three (most bubbles), she likes 2 (medium bubbles)
Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I know I am late to this "fad" of making sparling water at home, but that's okay with me.

Update
Okay! Well, after using up the bottles that came with device, I decided it was time to "hack" the machine to use a bigger bottle. This was not a cheap investment, but you will see that it saves money from the very start.
So to start, I bought a 10lb tank from my local Airgas business. I'm told you can find these at your local welding supply stores as well. I bought the 10lb tank because it was what would fit in the shelf that sits beneath my SodaSteam. The tank with the co2 cost $155.38 after tax. Refills will cost about $30 from that store or any welding supply store.
Next, I bought this hose from Amazon. I chose this one because it has a disconnect and pressure release valve to avoid leaks. It also has a gauge which may be useful. As I write this the price is $68.30
The math
So, for a $223.68 I hacked my SodaStream. This initial cost got me 10lbs of co2 and will cost $30 to refill going forward.
SodaSteam bottles are about 1lb each and are selling $74 fora 3 pack = $24.67/lb
My upfront cost was $223.68 for 10lb = $22.37/lb
After the first 10lbs my cost will drop to the refill cost of about $30/10lbs = $3/lb
As you can see, my initial 10lbs is cheaper than buying individual tanks and after the first 10 lbs my cost drops to almost 1/10th of the standard cost!
I'm very happy with this outcome and I hope you find this experiment useful. Thanks again for stopping by!
